
The Radford University FAMIS Outreach Project

The Radford University FAMIS Outreach Project is funded by the Virginia Health Care Foundation and the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation. Families are encouraged to contact the FAMIS outreach project to sign upor renew their eligible uninsured children for free state sponsered health insurance programs. "FAMIS MEDICAID"
FAMIS or Family Access to Medical Insurance Security is Virginia's state child health insurance program" SCHIP" and is very similar to the childrens Medicaid program. FAMIS allows families to earn up to 200% of the federal poverty level. For example a famliy of four may earn up to $44,100 per year. Children also must meet citizenship requirements. Families will not pay a monthly premium but may have $2 or $5 co pays and a hospital admission will be no more than a $25 copay.
-FAMIS covers doctor visits, hospitalizations, prescriptions, dental, vision, hearing, speech, and durable medical equipment.
-Referrals to other helath care saftey net providers are also available to all family members
-FAMIS outreach staff also act as health care advocates. Individuals who have been denied health care access may contact the outreach project for assistance.
-If you currently have FAMIS, you can also contact the CPU
for questions regarding renewal and ongoing eligibility.
-If you have Medicaid or Medallion, you can contact your
local Eligibility Worker at your local DSS if you have
questions about your case.
-If you have Virginia Premier as a Managed Care
Organization (MCO) and you need assistance finding a
provider or have questions regarding services covered or
referrals call 1-888-338-4579.

Medicaid or FAMIS call Smiles for Children at
