SOCIAL WORK 615: Substance Abuse and Dependency

Course Description

This course examines current theories and models pertaining to substance use disorders. It explores intervention from a strengths perspective and evidence based treatment techniques for working with individuals and their families. The course integrates theory and practice skills to teach social workers to critically examine the practice, policy, and research issues involved in substance use disorders and treatment methods. Issues of social work values and ethics, social and economic justice, populations at risk, and diversity across multiple dimensions are integral to this course. Mental Health emphasis area elective.
